Free Arts programs are offered in three cycles of six to eight weeks. The 1.5 to 2 hour weekly art education programs are divided into age groups of 13-17, 10-12, and 5-9.
Teaching artists lead Free Arts curriculum, guiding youth and families though the creation of visual, spoken word, or clay art projects.
Free Arts prioritizes in creating a safe space for youth. All art workshops are held in a familiar and comfortable location.
Free Arts teaching artists help develop mastery, gradually rebuilding self-esteem, and confidence.  From there, workshops encourage youth to take chances with their artwork and learn how to use mistakes as opportunities for growth and the adoption of new techniques.

Free Arts Teaching Artist Mentor Program

Dancing with FreeArts Stars

Dancing with Free Arts Stars is a wellness program engaging youth in dance, movement, mindfulness techniques, breath work, and artistic movement while developing healthy ways of combating stress in everyday life through exercise and nutrition.

FreeArts Holding Hands Artistry Hospital Program

Holding Hands Artistry is delivered two days a week at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Long Beach, engaging patients in art activities designed to decrease the anxiety and anxiousness of children in the hospital awaiting diagnosis and treatment. This virtual program takes place via the hospital's broadcasting studio and is viewed through each patient's television.  Patients receive art materials prior to class to engage in art activities with a Free Arts virtual teaching artist. Adding a special touch, patients also engage with the teaching artist through texting messaging and photos of artwork in the midst of each broadcast.  Free Arts will add in-person programming in the Spring of 2025.

Free Arts for Court Program

Free Arts for Court Program is delivered two days a week at
Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court for youth waiting to testify in front of a judge, counseling, visitation, and adoption. Art projects focus on calming youth so they can better communicate to the judge and/or therapist. Each art project is time flexible as waiting times at court are unpredictable. Many times, the youth’s perpetrator is also at the court testifying, whether in a locked courtroom with a jail, or in the waiting room with the youth. In this environment, Free Arts helps de-escalate fear and anxiety for youth and children.

Free Arts for Families

Free Arts for Families strengthens family bonds through weekly programs over six to eight weeks. This program encourages and improves family communication while creating happy memories.

Free Arts Festivals

Free Arts Festivals are one-day local events where underserved and marginalized communities enjoy a day of culturally responsive art, music, and food sourced from local vendors. The goal of this event is to provide a festival of art experiences to communities that do not have access to art programs while connecting with neighbors, and learning self-advocacy.
